The Catskill Brewery makes a variety of fresh ales, and lagers, and some barrel aged specialties from the finest natural and often local ingredients. The brewery was started by three friends who knew they could have a positive impact on their local economy by making great beer that would help attract tourists from far and wide to the place they love and call home - the Catskill Mountains of New York. Year-round beers include a couple of delicious IPA's - Floodwatch and Devil's Path, a fantastic pilsner - Ball Lightning, Nightshine black lager (recently selected by The New Yorker as best draught beer in New York City for 2015), and Freak Tractor - a superb brettanomyces saison.
The brewery backs up the regular styles with a variety of eclectic seasonals and barrel aged offerings. The brewery was also called out by one of the best beer bars in NYC in 2015 for their Local - a beer made with fresh locally grown hops the day after the hops were harvested in August. The brewery is installing it's own hop fields that should provide both internal supply for the brewery but also help perpetuate agricultural tourism in the area. The first hops from those fields will be available in time for harvest in fall 2016.

The Catskill Brewery is a fully renewably powered green brewery. The building utilizes geothermal systems to heat the brewery and cool the storage units to keep the beer cold. A solar thermal hot water system backs up the geothermal systems during high heat demand and preheats the brewing water during production. Solar photovoltaics provide electricity that powers the entire facility and during high loads wind renewable credits are purchased from the local electric grid.
Every aspect of the design and construction of the facility utilized the greenest, most environmentally friendly building technologies, from the porous paving system in the parking area to the green roof on top. Even waste such as spent grain from the brewing process is utilized in an environmentally way by sending to local farmers for livestock feed or composted with household waste on site. The brewery has LEED certification pending and is expected to be certified either Platinum or Gold. Given the technologies used and the systems employed as the owners set out to build the greenest brewery in the world, they might actually have succeeded.
