Full Explanation

After finishing his BFA in Scenic and Costume design for theater at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, James continued work as an apprentice designer and painter. In 1989 he started a decorative arts business, painting murals and faux finishes throughout the East Coast of the U.S.

He has studied Scagliola in Rome and Venice. Since that time he has taught workshops and published articles on the technique in addition to articles on venetian plaster, and fresco.

In 1989, he met his wife & Co-Founder, Angeline Wolf Gloria while painting scenery for the premier of a modern ballet in New York. Angeline has been an accomplished professional modern dancer and instructor of over 40 years.

Their interest in education led to the founding of Totts Gap Arts Institute a non- profit community arts center for fine and performing arts in Bangor, PA.

James is also known for creating the Heritage Mural Education Program for teens, which to date has produced 8 murals in the Lehigh Valley, and 4 accompanying short films.

It is James’ desire to make the Institute a regional center for the fine and performing arts, bringing a high level of professional instruction and events to the community.

James continues to paint and draw, with a current focus on plein air oil paintings, using traditional techniques; preparation of gesso, sizing linen,  hand refining his linseed oil, and making gel and impasto media.
