Wine, Beer and Spirit Tastings
You can try wine, beer or spirits seven days a week. We grow our grapes right here on the property in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
There are special events all year long and unique drink specials every weekend (details can be fond on our website at www.mountainviewvineyard.com).
Every weekend, the owners guide guests on a tour. During the vineyard, winemaking & brewing tour (check our website for seasonal schedule), you will get to see our sustainable planting methods and eco-friendly wine & beer making facility.
In addition to teaching you about grape growing, winemaking, & brewing, the passionate owners will share their story about how they gave up their day jobs to follow their dream. You'll leave feeling uplifted.
Mountain View Vineyard opened in 2009, but the journey started long before that. Owners Linda and Randy Rice first fell in love with grape growing and winemaking after a trip to the Finger Lakes with friends. In 2003, they planted their first vines on their original property along the driveway's split rail fence.
Their friends and family loved the wine they made with their home grown grapes, so they planted a vineyard in their backyard with a plan to sell their handmade wines.
The business grew quickly. In 2013, they added a distillery, which uses recycled grape products.
In 2014, the Rices purchased a 90-acre farm just two miles away on Walters Road. The purchase saved the land from being developed. It is now preserved under the Pennsylvania Clean and Green Act and the Land Preservation Program. Almost immediately, they began planting new grape varieties and now have 12 acres of grapes on the new property, as well as their 4 original acres on their Neola Road property.
A third product line, craft beer, was added in October of 2017. A tour of the new brewing equipment is held during the winemaking tours as both product lines, and their equipment, share space in the lower level of the new winery building.
In May of 2017, the Rices opened a new 7,000 square foot winery building with a 2,000 square foot mahogany wrap around covered porch. The beautifull vineyards and mountain views may be sen from anywhere on the porch!
The winery design includes geothermal energy, LED lighting, and top of the line insulation to reduce energy use. In the vineyard, minimal chemical intervention is practiced. Instead of herbicides, the Rices mulch the base of the vines to keep weeds at bay, retain moisture from the rain, and create a nice base for microbial activity. They also use a certified organic fungicide rather than synthetic. The couple is proving sustainable agriculture and economic development is possible.
The new project has provided jobs, educational courses, and internships. In the future, the public will be able to enjoy hiking trails that meander throughout the property. A soon-to-be expanded organic garden will provide produce for the onsite bistro where food is prepared for guests who come to visit.
