Locally or Family-Owned Business Notes
The Inn at Starlight Lake’s long history began in 1806 when a Connecticut settler named Underwood acquired 10,000 acres of rolling hills in northeastern Pennsylvania. In 1880 his grandson built a dam at the outlet of a small pond, expanding it into a large body of water he named “Starlight Lake.”
In 1907, Eugene Fay bought a tract near the eastern shore of the lake, and built a summer boarding house he called “Starlight Inn.” Guest mostly hailing from New York City and New Jersey, arrived by train and many stayed the entire summer. Another generation of the Fay family took over in 1968. They made extensive improvements to the Inn, adding private bathrooms, a cocktail lounge, and opening the Inn’s restaurant to the public as well as overnight guests.
The Inn at Starlight Lake went through another transformation in 1974. Jack and Judy McMahon, along with Judy’s brother Dennis Ebert, purchased the Inn’s property from the Fay’s and continued providing family hospitality.
Today the Inn is owned and operated by Sari Schwartz from Connecticut. Jim and Sari bought the Inn in 2005 and brought almost 65 years of hospitality experience to the Inn, and have been regular guest for over a decade. Jimmy passed away in 2011 and Sari and her daughter, HB the chef and son-in-law continue to operate the Inn and would like to welcome you as part of the family, and hope you enjoy your stay.
The restaurant is accessible from the back door (kitchen entrance) which also has its own parking
