Upper Delaware BioBlitz - Starlight, Wayne County, PA

At a BioBlitz, biologists and volunteers gather to collect, identify and catalog every living thing on the property in a 24-hour period.  The goal is to introduce kids to scientists and citizen naturalists working in the field. This year's BioBlitz will be held at the Gales Property, owned by the Norcross Wildlife Foundation, in Starlight, Wayne County, PA.  It is at the junction of the East and West Branches of the Delaware River, near the intersections of PA Rt. 191 and PA Rt 370.  

9 Teams will focus on particular categories of life, including :

  • Aquatic Insects
  • Birds
  • Fish
  • Mammals
  • Mosses and Lichens
  • Mushrooms
  • Plants, Grasses and Trees
  • Reptiles and Amphibians
  • Terrestrial Bugs

On Day One - June 29 - the 24 hour bio "blitz" will commence.  Citizen volunteers are welcome to assist the scientists.  No particular expertise is required; just ability to work in an expert-led team. Email info@upperdelawarebioblitz.com for more information. 

One Day Two - June 30 - the event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC from 9:00 a.m.. to 3:00 p.m.  Bring the family to learn more about the incredible diversity of the Upper Delaware Region. 

  • View the collected specimens and talk to the experts
  • Learn to take nature photos from a professional photographer
  • Take walks with scientists to learn about flowers, bugs and bats
  • Learn how to draw nature
  • Enjoy an original performance of "The Four Seasons" by NACL Theater
