The UDC non-profit organization has hosted a public raft trip annually since 1988 to promote stewardship of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River through a fun activity offered at a deeply discounted group rate.
A different section of the 73-mile-long Upper Delaware River which forms the border between New York State and Pennsylvania is highlighted each year. The UDC partners with a local outfitter to provide the rafts, paddles, life jackets, shuttle transportation, and safety instructions.
Participants should be in good physical condition. Children must weigh a minimum of 40 lbs. and be able to swim.
Pack a picnic lunch and plenty of drinking water. Dress to get wet, wear sunscreen and foot protection, and avoid bringing valuables. Small coolers and waterproof bags for items such as cameras and keys may be tied into the raft.
For information on water safety, refer to the National Park Service Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational website at http://www.nps.gov/upde/planyourvisit.safety.htm.
